new animation / nouvelle animation : transcription and RNA maturation

A new animation, in french and english, has been inserted into the animation page of the Cell Biology Education section. A schematic representation of transcription demonstrates how, through basepairing, the matrix (non-coding) strand of DNA is transcribed into hnRNA. We then go on to show the addition of the 5'-methyl-guanosine cap, excision of introns (splicing) and the extension of the messenger by a 3' polyA tail. The processed RNA is protected by proteins that bind the 5' and 3' ends, such as BABP, eIEF-4E and -4G, p15 and TAP, and this is followed by export into the cytoplasm where a ribosome binds to iniatiate the process of translation.
